Clocking in at #1 of the Top Free Apps this week is Sand Slides, a puzzle game for iPad. Sand Slides is pure, simple fun that can adapt to everyone’s level. I’ll concede: it has poorly ported graphics on the iPad version, and a few interface issues. But nonetheless, it’s a catchy concept that will relax and infuriate you at both ends of the spectrum. Download it while it’s free! And like usual, we’ll go into the caveats and gameplay hints, so stick around. Continue reading Sand Slides for iPad: The Honest Review
I have a cute fuzzball of a cat. He likes to hide inside paper bags and chase laser pointers and stocking feet. He’s living the good life, after a rough couple of years. And right this very minute, he’s yowling for some attention. He wants me to tell you kind folks that he’s way cuter than Talking Tom. And you can pay him $3 worth of chicken meat to rub his tummy. Which, I have to say is a screaming deal compared to the “free” Talking Tom app for iPad. Probably more entertaining, too. Continue reading Talking Tom for iPad: Give me a break! (Or is it just me?)
Welcome to the Island of Misfit Drivers; the place where all side-swiping, curb-kissing, wrong-way-driving tuckleberries go when the State Patrol has tired of their shenanigans. Crossroads HD is a fresh implementation of the classic line-drawing games like Flight Control and Harbor Master. Your mission: Use your finger to trace individual routes, directing cars to the right destinations without any incidents along the way. We’ve seen the concept before, but get ready for added obstacles and interactivity! Crossroads HD also comes jam-packed with six (6!) driving courses included, each with their own theme music, and OpenFeint integration. Is it worth the $4.99 price-tag? And is this game for you? The answer to both is “it depends”. Honk if you want to know more! Continue reading Crossroads HD for iPad: No Seat-belts Allowed!
“Goodness gracious, great balls of…fish!” Finally. There’s a game that fulfills my need to sling balls of food onto sticks and throw them at serve customers. Oh… you haven’t felt that before? You probably will soon, and Fish Ball will be waiting. Whether or not you’ll like the game remains to be seen though; In my case I want to like it much more than I actually do. I think I know the reason, so let’s get to it. Continue reading Fish Ball: A Game for iPad
It took me awhile to warm up to Star Daze HD – not because of the game concept – because of the implementation of the game. Don’t get me wrong; the game is fantastic fun, once I got past a few annoyances and saw the game for what it could (and hopefully will) become. With a nice price tag and the potential for endless gameplay, it’s something you’ll want to check out if you’re a fan of casual speed-based coordination games. It’s a cross between a puzzle and an obstacle course, boasting a simplistic interface and some awesome power ups. The app developers have struck just about the right balance of rewards and difficulty – nearly always keeping me playing just once more to meet that elusive goal… Continue reading Star Daze HD for iPad: Dizzyingly Fun Coordination Game
Occasionally an innocent trip to the iTunes App Store results in a downloading frenzy that rivals that of Supermarket Sweep. (Remember that gameshow? If not, maybe you were too busy watching Family Feud or Golden Girls. Wha?) I digress. Point being, my iPad is out of screen space so I sometimes forget about new apps until I’ve purged some old ones from view. Such was the case with Azkend HD: an impulse purchase back in May. I rediscovered it last weekend. It was like finding a little present that got missed at Christmas last year – a happy surprise that practically requires a weekend lounge-fest to enjoy it from start to finish (but also fun in small doses, too). Continue reading Azkend HD for iPad: My Favorite iPad Puzzle Game
Paper Toss HD for iPad was just released, which is exciting news if you’re already familiar with the mega hit on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Downloading it to your iPad will set you back $2.99, but features a new Pub level, plus some nice graphic upgrades. Is it worth it? Welllll… yes and no; it will really vary depending on your frame of mind. Let’s break it down so you’ll be well-informed before handing over your money. Continue reading iPad Game Review: Paper Toss HD for iPad
It’s another one of those games. The ones we sometimes have a hard time admitting we enjoy because it’s painfully adolescent, but strikes the chord of our shared inner humanity. The game concept is alluring from a player’s perspective, but unexpectedly at a psychological level too. Why? In GodFinger you direct an entire planet with your fingertip. Nothing happens until you tell it to. You must dictate every rainfall – every sunbeam – every nap – every workday – every farm – everything. You can name your followers, and decide whether you want to be a good god, or a mean god. Sound Dangerous? Continue reading GodFinger for iPad: Devilishly Brilliant…but Disappointing
If you’ve downloaded some depressingly dull apps for your iPad the last couple days, you deserve a pick-me-up: something that will remind you why you bought the iPad in the first place. Something so good, it can’t possibly be legal. Pssst. It’s called Labyrinth 2 HD. The “lite” version is a freebie you can’t pass up, and the full version is worth its substantial price tag (with one caveat). Continue reading Labyrinth 2 HD: Instant Cure for the iPad Blues
It’s frustrating when a good idea is poorly executed. I can tell this iPad app is a labor of love for the developers– great care has gone into the details of the chess interface and overall game play. But it’s just not ready for prime time yet. Painfully so. The thing is, I’m kind of a cheese ball and I love a good comeback story. So I’m challenging the developers of WarChess HD: create a new skin. Add a few features. And you might just have a winner! Continue reading iPad’s WarChess HD: A (Free) Conundrum
