Let’s play a game. Count how many chores you do on a daily basis. For me, that includes dishes, folding laundry, making lunches – I could go on but you get the point. Each of us has them. And if you’re like me, your brain is usually absent during these mind-numbing tasks. Well, I have a great free tip for you today: TED for iPad. It brings 5 to 20-minute lectures – on everything you can imagine – directly to your frontal cortex. Imagine with me for a moment: You’re in the rental car, navigating the streets of Seattle. A cup of Starbucks coffee has just burned your tongue, and you’re giving your GPS the evil eye because it told you to turn right into a large body of water. (Ok, I’m taking some creative license here, work with me.) The point is, you’re about ready to throw in the towel when junior pipes up from the back seat. “Can we go to the Wall of Gum?” Because you are the cool parent you are, you immediately reply, “well duh, let’s go right now“. Dictionary! for the iPad: My Excitement Overfloweth!?

Exclamation points by nature drive home a point. Sometimes good, (“I just got a raise!”) and sometimes bad (“Stop it, you’re hurting me!”). It’s difficult to tell what the punctuation of this app’s name implies. “Dictionary!” is sort of like exclaiming “Hamburger!” or “Shoe!” Well, with a one word title gleefully calling attention to itself, I could only assume it was going to knock my socks off.
