Reeder for iPad: The Internet’s Jack LaLanne Power Juicer

‘Reeder’ is an iPad app that could make your life a little better every day. I rarely make a blanket statement that bold when it comes to, well, iPad apps. So let me clarify. I’m not going to try to sell you on snake oil today, and it’s not really about one single app; it’s about making the most of your time, and finding the app that makes a pleasure out of what can be a chore. Think of it this way: The Internet is a huge fruit bowl. And we can all benefit from a juicer to extract the essential parts. Reeder does just that. Beautifully. Whole Foods Market Throws Their iPad Recipe App into the Pot

In case you don’t have a Whole Foods Market near you, they are a top-notch grocery store with an emphasis on healthy and organic products. Their website features a nice recipe database, and they’re all over the social scene to engage foodies online. In fact, WFM already had an iPhone app, so it’s no surprise there’s now an iPad-specific app to follow suit. I love the clean, ad-free interface, and don’t really have many qualms with the implementation. The problem is, we don’t need it! All these food apps are making my iPad uncomfortably bloated and my jeans fit too tight. Continue reading Whole Foods Market Throws Their iPad Recipe App into the Pot

Martha Stewart Makes Cookies for iPad: Feast Your Eyes on the Cookie Runway!

Autumn in this neck of the woods is Cookie Season. My kitchen will soon be stacked with cookies: cookies baking, cookies cooling, cookies in my tummy, cookies in the freezer, and cookies in tins waiting to be given away. If you’ve ever seen the classic episode of I Love Lucy at the chocolate factory, you’ll get an idea of what it looks like around here. I can’t claim to be anywhere in the same stratosphere as Martha Stewart when it comes to baking, though. Anything ‘Martha’ is impeccably done, stamped with perfection, and makes even the hardened DIY-er quiver just a little. So I was mighty curious to see what the first Martha Stewart iPad app would look like. Beauty? Functionality? Brains? You’ll have to keep reading to find out. Paprika iPad Recipe App: Wrangle your Recipes Beautifully

Update (Feb 26, 2011) This awesome recipe app for the iPad jumped to a whole new level with version 1.2. I have increased my rating to 4.5 stars and updated the feature lists inline with the original review.

I love to cook in my spare time; it’s a primal instinct for me. Sweet or savory, hot or cold, crunchy or smooth: I love it all. While most of my friends are skilled in the art of improvisational cooking – coming up with dishes that make men weep in gratitude – I’ve been blessed with a less romantic gift: The gift of following directions. In translation, I’m a cookbook junkie. That’s why I’m so, so, so excited to tell you about a new iPad app for cooks. It’s called Paprika, and just like the real thing, you’ll be glad you’ve got it in your arsenal. Get ready to amass a new collection of recipes, and use those giant books as doorstops instead!
