In case you don’t have a Whole Foods Market near you, they are a top-notch grocery store with an emphasis on healthy and organic products. Their website features a nice recipe database, and they’re all over the social scene to engage foodies online. In fact, WFM already had an iPhone app, so it’s no surprise there’s now an iPad-specific app to follow suit. I love the clean, ad-free interface, and don’t really have many qualms with the implementation. The problem is, we don’t need it! All these food apps are making my iPad uncomfortably bloated and my jeans fit too tight. Continue reading Whole Foods Market Throws Their iPad Recipe App into the Pot
Update (Feb 26, 2011) This awesome recipe app for the iPad jumped to a whole new level with version 1.2. I have increased my rating to 4.5 stars and updated the feature lists inline with the original review.
I love to cook in my spare time; it’s a primal instinct for me. Sweet or savory, hot or cold, crunchy or smooth: I love it all. While most of my friends are skilled in the art of improvisational cooking – coming up with dishes that make men weep in gratitude – I’ve been blessed with a less romantic gift: The gift of following directions. In translation, I’m a cookbook junkie. That’s why I’m so, so, so excited to tell you about a new iPad app for cooks. It’s called Paprika, and just like the real thing, you’ll be glad you’ve got it in your arsenal. Get ready to amass a new collection of recipes, and use those giant books as doorstops instead! There are two basic categories of human beings: those who see food as a necessity to fuel the body, and those who eat to savor an experience. This iPad app caters more to the second crowd, for sure. If that’s you, continue reading. If you think food is overrated, skip down here for a couple reasons why you might want this app anyway.
The free Epicurious iPad app can be summed up in a word: decadent. There are no thinly veiled attempts to coax you into buying something. You won’t find yourself scrolling past annoying ads or ‘sneak peeks’ of the full version. It’s just full of luscious photos and well-organized recipes. Even with a few imperfections, it’s among my favorite iPad apps so far. Combine this mobile app with a few other choice tools and you might be ready to put your pile of cookbooks in storage for awhile. Continue reading Epicurious, the iPad App for Foodies is Free!
There are some mobile apps that are just ridiculous. It’s ok if they’re free… but if they’re pointless and cost money, I get punchy. Just to be clear- there’s a difference between apps that I hear about and roll my eyes (i.e. harmless), and apps that make me dig out my voodoo dolls for some good old-fashioned passive aggressive rage (i.e. also harmless, but understandably makes my family a little antsy.)
We call in your pizza order, so you don’t have to! Order from your iPad in seconds!
You’ve got to be kidding me. I’m not going to pay $2.99 for this (cr)app. I’m an intelligent American who can take 3 minutes to order her own food, thank you. I’d rather leave a more generous tip for the delivery guy. But why stop there? I could use the money I save and buy lemonade from the sweet girl on the corner trying to make a few bucks for her college fund. Or treat the homeless man I see every day on the way to work with a tasty sandwich. Or I could buy another $2.99 iPad app with pretty graphics and a purpose. Oh snap.
