Free iPad Apps

Here at iPad Apps Hub we love free stuff – who doesn’t, right? We’re humming with excitement over the selection of new iPad apps, especially those lacking a price tag. And with more being added each day, it’s downright tedious to sift through the trash to find the treasure. The good news is, you have a few friends willing to patrol the app store for you so you can continue being a productive member of society… or whatever kept you busy before becoming an iPad owner.

Stick with us for your daily dose of the best — and occasionally the silliest — free iPad apps. Honest and unbiased is the name of the game here. All that’s required of you is an open mind, a sense of humor, and the thrill that comes with getting something awesome for nothing.

NBC Live for iPad: Shooting for the Stars…and Falling

What is NBC Live? Let me set the stage for you. Picture a modern cyber pajama party where people of all ages come together on common ground: television. With our lazy bones curled up on couches – or sprawled on beds like tweens gossiping with besties – we watch TV together as a nation and react in real time. NBC Live provides the chat host, a multitude of fun facts and some quiz questions, and you bring the carefree banter. But…this is 2011. Can anything really be as cute and fun as that? I’ll give you the run down as I see it. Get your bunny slippers and come with me! Continue reading NBC Live for iPad: Shooting for the Stars…and Falling

TED for iPad: You’re Just Minutes Away from a New Perspective

Let’s play a game. Count how many chores you do on a daily basis. For me, that includes dishes, folding laundry, making lunches – I could go on but you get the point. Each of us has them. And if you’re like me, your brain is usually absent during these mind-numbing tasks. Well, I have a great free tip for you today: TED for iPad. It brings 5 to 20-minute lectures – on everything you can imagine – directly to your frontal cortex. I guarantee your brain will perk up, and you might just start looking forward to those daily chores. Of course, you don’t need to conjure up an excuse to watch TED talks! Sand Slides for iPad: The Honest Review

Clocking in at #1 of the Top Free Apps this week is Sand Slides, a puzzle game for iPad. Sand Slides is pure, simple fun that can adapt to everyone’s level. I’ll concede: it has poorly ported graphics on the iPad version, and a few interface issues. But nonetheless, it’s a catchy concept that will relax and infuriate you at both ends of the spectrum. Download it while it’s free! And like usual, we’ll go into the caveats and gameplay hints, so stick around. Continue reading Sand Slides for iPad: The Honest Review

Mood Finger Scan: An iPad App So Bad It’s Good

It’s been a long, terrible, frustrating day. And I was in the mood to do a snarky review, so I trolled around the app store for all of 30 seconds. That’s how long it took to find the perfect bad app — Mood Finger Scan. Here’s a humdinger, folks. Not only is it completely ridiculous, it has also garnered what I believe to be the most hilarious app store reviews. With a total of 18,986 reviews at the time of writing, there is no shortage of material. Keep reading for some highlights from the app store reviews, plus the usual honest review of the app itself. Talking Tom for iPad: Give me a break! (Or is it just me?)

I have a cute fuzzball of a cat. He likes to hide inside paper bags and chase laser pointers and stocking feet. He’s living the good life, after a rough couple of years. And right this very minute, he’s yowling for some attention. He wants me to tell you kind folks that he’s way cuter than Talking Tom. And you can pay him $3 worth of chicken meat to rub his tummy. Which, I have to say is a screaming deal compared to the “free” Talking Tom app for iPad. Probably more entertaining, too. Continue reading Talking Tom for iPad: Give me a break! (Or is it just me?)

City Story on iPad: Build a City without an Engineering Degree

Remember in my last post how I lamented over my disappointing summer? Well, during the quiet moments, I started playing a game called City Story. It’s a social network-based game along the lines of We Rule and God Finger. The flavor of the month this time is somewhat unexpected, though: City Planning… still with me? I know, eating chalk sounds more fun. But for what it’s worth, it’s engaging enough to have kept me coming back to play for several weeks. And I’ve learned a few tricks along the way. Evernote for iPad: Cleanse your Brain of Junk!

There’s a hint of fall in the air, and I love it. Don’t get me wrong; I’ll miss summer, and the carefree fun I had… those first 2 days. After that my life snowballed into a pressure cooker of obligations, stress, and to-dos. Fortunately I took the opportunity to test several productivity apps for iPad. I’ll be sharing my findings over the next several weeks. First up is Evernote, my trusty brain-dump tool. I kid you not: I would kick and scream like a little girl if someone took it away from me. As for the iPad app, it’s definitely got high and low points. After a quick overview of Evernote, we’ll sink into the details of the iPad app functionality and where improvements are needed. Friday Freebies Roundup: May 21st

Welcome to a new thing called Friday Freebies – 7 free apps, one for each day of the week. They’re ones that we at iPadAppsHub have been using ourselves and feel are worth sharing. The criteria: We aim for a variety of topics and publishers, and try to find the apps that haven’t yet hit the big time (although certainly it’s hard to avoid a couple top-10 favs). Lite apps that hound the user to upgrade are not allowed. Minor UI flaws are overlooked because of the price tag. Lastly, we welcome your ideas and feedback – let us know what you think of these iPad freebies! Continue reading Friday Freebies Roundup: May 21st

GodFinger for iPad: Devilishly Brilliant…but Disappointing

It’s another one of those games. The ones we sometimes have a hard time admitting we enjoy because it’s painfully adolescent, but strikes the chord of our shared inner humanity. The game concept is alluring from a player’s perspective, but unexpectedly at a psychological level too. Why? In GodFinger you direct an entire planet with your fingertip. Nothing happens until you tell it to. You must dictate every rainfall – every sunbeam – every nap – every workday – every farm – everything. You can name your followers, and decide whether you want to be a good god, or a mean god. Sound Dangerous? Continue reading GodFinger for iPad: Devilishly Brilliant…but Disappointing
